Young Womans Personal Progress March Madness is created to encourage the Young Woman in our ward. It helped jump start them into wanting to do more Personal Progress. And wow it was more of a success that we ever could have imaged! This works with girls that are just starting theirs to girls working on their Honor Bee's to girls starting Personal Progress over.....and you can't forget the leaders too :)
We started it off with a night where we had the girls come dressed in basketball clothes and we met in the gym. Each girl got a huge number sticker on their back with their name and number. We played "Let's get ready to rumble" and had the girls run in while names were being announced. Then we sat down and chatted about how Personal Progress March Madness was going to work.
Young Womans Personal Progress March Madness
How it works:
Each Experience is valued based on how long it will take to complete. Every Honor Bee hour and Project Value hour is 10 points and each page read in the Book of Mormon is worth 1 point. Everything complete before this night can not count for points (so make sure you have every girl up to date!).
We had girls report what they had been doing whenever they wanted to. Also, we encouraged girls to email, text messages. The girls could turn in scorecards during opening exercises, during mutual....really whenever! The first few Sundays hardly anyone turned their scores in. We had a score sheet updated every Sunday with just their numbers so no one could be embarrassed if they chose not to do any.
The last Sunday was the last time they could see where points were at. Girls could still turn in their scores up until Tuesday.
That Wednesday we revealed the "Sweet Sixteen" which top 16 (Young Woman and Leaders) each got called up to the front for their "something sweet" doughnut. Then we called up the "Elite Eight" which each got a Church Clutch that could hold their Strength for the Youth, Personal Progress book and Journal in. Then the "Final Four" we brought up which we left it up to the Bishopric to decide the prize. (They had a making a movie party and pizza at the Bishop's house). We did reveal who the top girl was but we mainly wanted to focus on the Final Four.
